two years of the different drummer soundtrack

Soundtrack:  Bowery Electric, “Freedom Fighter”

Two years ago today (and exactly sixty-four years after the bombing of Pearl Harbor) The Different Drummer Soundtrack made its debut in cyberspace.

The post was entitled “How Do You Drive This Thing?” and it was about me trying to figure out the new blogging software.  Roughly one hundred fifty posts later, I’m still in essence “learning how to drive this thing.”  But I’ve learned up a few things along the way.

A lot has happened since December 7, 2006.  For the first time in long time, I find myself saying “just a year elapsed?”  It started with my mother’s final days in her battle with ovarian cancer last December and her death in January, followed by my turning 40 on 07/07/07, followed by my decision to leave Mahikari and join the Baha'i Faith.

On my “What is the Different Drummer Soundtrack?” page, I resisted trying to categorize this website by saying that “it is what it is.”  In some ways what I said was kind of prophetic.  One of the original purposes of this blog was to promote the Mahikari spiritual organization, and I could not have known at the time that this blog would outlast my tenure with the organization—and that the change would come so soon.

Once I was clear about leaving my former spiritual path, it became easier to write about what’s been happening with me.  I feel like my writing has been a little more honest, a little more personal.  I think it’s because I’ve been more honest with myself.  I think there have been a lot of layers of myself I’ve been uncovering.  There are more that need to be uncovered.

So thanks for reading, and stay tuned…
