ladders, paint splatters, and other transition matters

3 Asma' 165 B.E. (Baha'i Calendar)

Soundtrack in my head: Thrushes, “Ghost Train”

The neighborhood has settled down after it's busy upside-down moving day last weekend. The streets are clean again, and any crazy shuffling is now going on within the various rooms and apartments of this block.  As for our house, we have had four new people move into our co-op house within the last week. We are a House In Transition.

In the space of 24 hours, the occupant of Room 3 left on a flight to Boston, occupant of Room 1 moved into Room 3, and a new person moved into Room 1. Also, within the last two weeks, the new occupant of Room 3 has had her sister move in with her. The occupant of Room 6 is now in Room 9. The occupant of Room 7 is now in Room 10.

The smell of fresh paint has wafted through the hallways from time to time. Occasional sounds of hammers and nails and saws could be heard, as the occupant of one of the smallest rooms built an impressive looking loft. Occasionally, chairs, mattresses and other items will temporarily occupy parts of the living room or dining room as people prepare their rooms.

I came home from work today to find the last two new members in my hallway. One of them, dealing with jet lag, was struggling to put together a bed together in order to get some sleep. The other one had already nicely rearranged her tiny room, and somehow found about five extra square feet that way.

The floor I live on has four new residents. A housemate joked to another housemate that the this floor is only for new house members. I laughed.

As for me, I still have boxes in my room—stuff that I took down from the attic and went through. Some of it I'm still trying to figure out what to do with. I also have two large boxes of stuff ready to go to St. Vinny's or Goodwill. I guess I have my own transition to think about...
